Tips for night-time positioning:

Leckey Sleepform System is continuing to sell well and yes, we do offer home trials to see if it suits.  We are finding it suits best younger children (mainly preschool or early primary grades), and both those children with high tone and those who are very floppy.  However there are quite a few older children who have done well with the system – if you think it may suit a client of yours please speak to Richard direct click here for further information.

Leckey Sleepform Temperature Control Sheet - This product, sold as an accessory to the Sleepform night time positioning system, is made with Outlast®, which absorbs excess body heat, stores it and then releases it when needed. It is generally used to help prevent users from getting excessively hot during the night.  Commonly we use the Sleepform system with children with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, however a colleague in NSW reports that they have just had their first successful trial with the Temperature Control sheet with client with Multiple Sclerosis, who won't progress to a full Sleepform. This client is somewhat overweight and has limited mobility (uses a power chair) and is currently using alternating air mattress and feels like his head is going to "explode" from the heat. The Leckey Sleepform Temperature Control Sheet worked well to help resolve this problem and it has been suggested by therapists that the sheet should work well with other clients who experience difficulty regulating body temperature issues, who don't necessarily need a positioning mould. Leckey Sleepform Temperature Control Sheet is available in two sizes:

Small   RRP $264
Large   RRP $347

ASKLE POSITIONING SYSTEM - While we are finding the Leckey Sleepform system just unbeatable for many children, it has also been our observation that there are lots of customers out there who really don’t need or tolerate this level of night time positioning, but would still benefit from positioning support while in bed, whether for comfort, pressure relief or other practical reasons.  Otto Bock is now offering a variety of Askle Positioning Accessories: these are a variety of soft shaped cushions, covered in Promust PU fabric, which is waterproof with antibacterial stitching.    The cushions can be wiped clean with disinfectant and/or machine washed, and the shapes are a mix of donuts, wedges, sausages and crescents that are quite versatile in their potential applications. Click here for further information.

A starter kit is available for purchase RRP $1800.

QUICKIE ACTIVE MANUAL WHEELCHAIRS There have been quite a few recent product enhancements throughout the Quickie manual range, already coming though on many manual chairs.  Our Quickie 2 Lite demo wheelchair has arrived and ready for trials!

Highlights of recent changes to the range include:

1. Litespoke wheels are now standard on Quickie 2 and GT series chairs, these have a streamlined hub design and are significantly lighter

2. Q2 is now significantly lighter, after a lot of weight has been removed – mainly from the crossbrace and the legrest hangers

3. Q-Fit technology is now being used in receivers for side guards and armrests – there is a spring-loaded component inside the receiver that makes it fit much more snugly, removing the annoying “wiggle” that was previously present.

4. Quickie sideguards themselves have been redesigned, they now have a nice hole to grab when removing or inserting – great for quads or others with reduced hand function.

5. The single post height adjustable armrests have also had an upgrade, now featuring an easier release handle and height adjustment, with contoured armrest pads available.  They are also interchangeable right and left, removing the chance of someone jamming the armrest into the wrong side and getting it stuck.

6. The flip-back armrest also has been redesigned so it looks a bit nicer and more importantly, is much lighter.

7. Nice gel armrest pads and hanger protectors are now available to improve comfort

8. GT and GTi now come standard with a locking fold-down back, converting the backrest towel bar into a convenient handle to lift the frame.

Product Updates

Convaid have sent through a couple of updates over the past weeks.  Firstly, they advise that the webbing on belts and harnesses of Convaid products are being changed over to black (currently they match the colour of the chair) as stocks run out of the coloured parts.  We will see this change on new Convaid products over the coming months.  Secondly, all Convaid products for the Australian market are now being ordered with the Australian tether Strap and label Kit, for a charge of $65.  This is a compulsory addition to comply with recent changes to Australian regulations.
